About Me
Hello, my name is Ashley Hufnagel and I am certified to teach K-5, all subjects; 6-8, self-contained; and 6-8, Language Arts. I am a graduate of Fowler High School in Fowler, MI, where I graduated with a class of 50! I continued my education at Michigan State University where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts and Technology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Educational Technology.
At Michigan State University I worked for the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Media Services. I assisted Professors and Instructors with their presentations, recorded lectures, and used video conferencing equipment to transmit lectures to South East Michigan and Grand Rapids. I also worked as a Resident Assistant for 3 semesters, one of which was during my student teaching internship. This experience honed my skills of developing relationships and building communities!
During my first Teacher Education course, I was placed at the Refugee Development Center in Lansing, Michigan, and worked with students of all grade levels, mentoring, tutoring, and teaching English. After connecting with those students and being a part of their learning experience, I knew that I made the right choice to pursue Education. My further experiences in a first and fifth grade classroom cemented my decision to become an elementary teacher.
I completed my internship at Sheridan Road School in Lansing, MI. Teaching in an urban district taught me that my duties as a teacher don’t end with academic success, but they encompass social and emotional success as well. I believe that a strong community is essential to student success. I hope to join a strong educational community where I can use my strengths and grow as a learner.
